A SUPRISE FOR KAMALA Moving from Singapore to Melbourne changed my life. When Kamala Chellaiya visited Australia for a holiday in 2005, she knew she wanted to live here and tried for permanent residency. So in 2007, she went on line and enrolled in a college that she saw on the website. MARRIAGE SURPRISE "I met my husband at the college he was a student also, doing a different course and we married in June. It was an exciting time for me." smiles Kamala. "The only problem was, I was not happy in my course. I was not having much salon experience and I lacked confidence," she said. TRANSFERRED "We looked at other Colleges and decided I would leave the course and enrol at 'The Academy' with two friends. CERTIFICATE III "I also discovered I could just do Certificate III in Hairdressing - the Trade qualification. I did not have to do Certificate IV or the Diploma," explained Kamala. "I'm loving the course and the teachers are good, helpful and experienced," she said. "I've been here about 7 months now and training 3 days per week it's great." SALON EXPERIENCE "It's amazing how much I've learnt already. We are in the salon each day and I've already been styling, cutting, colouring, blow waving and perming," she explained. CONFIDENT After passing her first assessment in setting, blow waving and long hair styling, Kamala said, "I am succeeding and it has given me confidence, I'm so glad I made the change."
